As a former National Institute of Health leader, Bhattacharya emphasized that the risk to public health is significantly lower than seen during the coronavirus pandemic. He argued that while the virus is more lethal if contracted directly, its spread is far more complex, requiring prolonged contact between individuals. This contrasts sharply with the pandemic, where daily briefings were routine. Despite these differences, the U.S. has maintained robust collaboration with international bodies such as the World Health Organization and foreign governments to address outbreaks effectively.
